Calabar Ecclesiastical Province 2019 Provincial Day

Calabar Provincial Day Celebration held at Uyo from 2nd to 5th May, 2019 is one to reminisce for a long time to come. The Sisters were warmly and graciously welcomed by the Ordinary, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. John A. Ayah, Vicar for Religious, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Essien, Vicar General Pastoral, Very Rev Fr. Emmanuel Aking, the Administrator of the Pastoral Centre, Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel E. Effiong, the CWO, CMO, CYON representatives, etc. Warmest welcome with lots of hugs came from the Area President of Uyo, her executives and all the Sisters.

The Opening Mass/Prayer Sessions helped tremendously to set the tone and mood. His Lordship, Most Rev Dr. John Ayah presided at the opening Mass. Thereafter, he joined us in the hall for paper presentation on the theme, 'The Place of Consecrated Persons in the present day Nigerian Politics' by Sr. Anthonia Essien, HHCJ which was inspiring, thought provoking and most challenging.

He expressed deep joy at our level of interaction on the chosen topic and commended the initiative, thoughtfulness, sacrifices and passion of Consecrated Persons. Our topic for the year, according to him is timely for the present day Nigerian situation and has been a topic of discussion at the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria. He admonished us to keep praying since in prayer is the power to change things for good.

Our Motto, Unity for Love and Service was evident during this time together, especially in the joy, fun at the march pass, the football field, the beach and gala night variety show.

The Metropolitan Archbishop, Most Rev. Joseph Effiong Ekuwem, who could not come for pastoral reasons sent a formal goodwill message to the Conference through the Area President of Uyo, Sr. Elizabeth Blok, SND. About one hundred Rev Sisters attended the Uyo 2019 Provincial Day Celebration.

Filled with joy and gratitude to God almighty, the Provincial President, Rev. Sr. Stella Essien, HHCJ declared the Provincial Day Celebration closed on Saturday 4th May and announced Port Harcourt as the next Area to host Provincial Day in 2021. We departed on Sunday, 5th May, 2019 after Holy Mass celebrated by the Vicar General Pastoral of Uyo Diocese.
